Days 7-12 Civil War, Civil Rights, Music, Literature, History and Food Southern Trip Alabama, Georgia, Florida

It's U. S. old

Old Courthouse in Monroeville, Alabama
Houses museums of Harper Lee, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Truman Capote.
They were getting ready for annual sausage festival on Oct 4.  Betty wouldn't stick her face
here, but who can resist a
photo?

Remains of home next door to the Lee family where Truman Capote spent holidays and summer.
Harper Lee accompanied her old friend Capote as he trekked to Kansas researching In Cold Blood, and she was so deeply involved in that book's creation that by some accounts she deserved co-author credit. Capote was the inspiration for the neighbor boy 'Dill' in To Kill A Mockingbird, and he said that a character in his Other Voices, Other Rooms was based on Lee.
Monroeville downtown, also home to Alice Lee, Harper's 100 year old sister who still practiced law in Monroeville as late as 2009.  There is a saying in the town of Monroeville: "If you don't know something, go ask Alice." She's been working at the law office since 1943.
